The Class MA source form advises applicants answering Yes not to continue with this application route and to seek advice from the local planning authority. This records the significance of the answer, not a requirement for software to block submission.
For Class MA applications, answer Yes if any of the following restrictions apply. The question combines restrictions affecting the building and its land with restrictions affecting the area where the building is located.
The first group concerns land covered by the building or within its curtilage:
- A site of special scientific interest.
- A listed building or land within its curtilage.
- A scheduled monument or land within its curtilage.
- A safety hazard area.
- A military explosives storage area.
The second group concerns whether the building is in:
- An area of outstanding natural beauty.
- An area specified by the Secretary of State for the enhancement and protection of the natural beauty and amenity of the countryside.
- The Broads.
- A National Park.
- A World Heritage Site.
Answer No if none of these restrictions apply. A single answer is recorded; the field does not identify which individual restriction applies.
These criteria are taken from section 4a of the Class MA application form, version ECAB 2024.1.
