The Class MA source form advises applicants answering No not to continue with this application route and to seek advice from the local planning authority. This records the significance of the answer, not a requirement for software to block submission.
For Class MA applications, the qualifying uses depend on when the building was used. The period must be continuous and cover at least the two years immediately before the application date.
For periods before 1 September 2020, the qualifying uses are:
- Shops (Use Class A1).
- Financial and professional services (Use Class A2).
- Food and drink (Use Class A3).
- Business (Use Class B1).
- Medical or health services (Use Class D1(a)).
- Crèche, day nursery or day centre (Use Class D1(b)).
- Indoor and outdoor sports (Use Class D2(e)), excluding indoor swimming pools and skating rinks.
For periods from 1 September 2020, the qualifying use is Commercial, Business and Service (Use Class E).
These criteria are taken from section 4a of the Class MA application form, version ECAB 2024.1.
